No Count Down till Summer

April-blog-a-day: What is left to do with your students? In your classroom? With your colleagues? Personally?

Personally, I am looking for new career opportunities.  I really enjoyed my job as curriculum director, and also like the opportunities that being a building principal would allow.  What I find really exciting right now is the unknown.   That sounds a bit crazy, but I have learned to be stronger, and more positive over this past year.  I have skills, talents, and passions that will translate into a variety of careers.  So, I’m keeping my eyes and mind open to what may come my way.

This has been a different kind of school year for me, as I have mentioned in other posts.  I finished my principals’ license in the late fall, and have been subbing since then.  I am now teaching ELL, grades K-2, till the end of the school year.  I have been in that position for the last two weeks, and I’m really enjoying it.  So, between now and the end of the school year, what do I need to do?  I need to l learn how to complete an ILP for two new students, find great primary resources for ELL students, and have fun teaching and learning with these little kiddos each day.  I think we do our students a disservice (and give a bad impression of our profession) when we “count down till winter break”, “count down till spring break”, and “count down till summer break.”  What are we telling our students?  That we can’t wait to get rid of them?  And what does that say to parents, administrators, community members?  There will be no counting down for me…just making each day count.
